In the year 2017 we celebrate the 200th birthday year of Antonio de Torres, founder of the classical guitar as we know it today (Almeria, June 13, 1817 – Almeria, November 19, 1892)
Daniel Slaman Guitars will contribute by organising a concert ‘Recordando a Don Antonio de Torres’ on Friday 23rd of June, 2017 in The Hague, Netherlands. Musicians will be jazz guitarist and teacher Axel Hagen, jazz and classical guitarist and teacher Olaf Tarenskeen, on bass Noah Nicoll and on drums Joan Terol Amigó (Spain). The guitarists will play on instruments from the serie Recordando a Don Antonio de Torres built by Daniel Slaman Guitars, linking the tradition of the 19th century classical and flamenco guitars to the 20th century archtop jazz guitar. Jazz guitar maker Daniel Slaman will open the evening with a short introduction, talking about the connection to Antonio de Torres and his guitars. Two sets of 45 min will be played, remembering the great maestro Torres.
