New Vintage Guitars > 1923 style

Dirk van der Meij, Netherlands plays a custom made 1923 model, # 31414.  A special feature is the neck without finish on the playing surface.

From 1919 till 1924, Lloyd Loar worked for the Gibson company as acoustic engineer. Famous for his work on mandolins, but equally famous for the invention of the archtop guitar, the L5. It had features never seen before on a guitar such as f-holes and a floating fingerboard over the top.
The L5 is the archetype of jazz guitar, every jazz guitar in existence today dates it’s origins back to the early twenties of the previous century.

The 1923 model guitar is very lightweight; in fact it is the same in weight as the original guitars from the twenties; 2,1 kg or 4,6 lbs.
The neck is patterned after the comfortable shape and thickness of the famous late twenties guitars with a 10 inch radius fingerboard.
